Real Estate:
Established in 1956 by Jack Benaroya, The Benaroya Company grew to become the largest warehouse and office developer in the Pacific Northwest. In 1984, Larry Benaroya took over management of the Company. Since then, the Company has acquired and/or developed more than 11 million square feet of real estate projects including data centers; medical, retail, industrial, technology and office facilities for a wide range of global and regional companies including industry leaders such as Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, General Services Administration, Group Health, Lockheed Martin, Marvell Technology Group, Nintendo, Nordstrom, Seattle Children’s Hospital, Solar World, Starbucks, Verizon, Virginia Mason, Walton Street Investments, and many more.
Venture Capital:
For more than two decades The Benaroya Company has also been among the region's leading private venture capital firms. Several Benaroya portfolio companies have gone public and many more have had successful private exits. Current technology investments include Zipline Games, DNA Response, Calico Energy Sources, Avail-TVN, Audiosocket, Zoomingo, Avalara and Cozi. Prior investments include: Swype, Tegic, Coinstar, Zones, CommQuest, Peapod, Sparkbuy, Open Interface, Capital Stream and Starbucks.
Philanthropy:
The Benaroya Company embraces corporate social responsibility through philanthropy and dedication to the economic vibrancy and social conscience of the Pacific Northwest. The Benaroyas' lead gift enabled construction to begin for the Seattle Symphony Hall. The world-class venue, Benaroya Hall, opened its doors in 1998. In 1999, Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle completed construction of its state-of-the-art Benaroya Research Institute, a facility dedicated to solving the mysteries of diabetes and other autoimmune diseases. The Benaroya Company and its Foundation also support numerous other civic, medical, and charitable organizations.
